Daily life in Elizabethan England was a time of when new ideas in Science and Literature and all aspects of Elizabethan daily life. It was the time of when playwrights were introduced to the Elizabethan People of the theatre and the work of William Shakespeare. Village Life in Elizabethan era: The Elizabethan life in a village changed by the seasons, for example the busiest season would be during the harvest season where they would harvest and have hay making periods to get food and hay. The People lived and worked in close family trades and specific skills were passed from father to son that could help with the next generation as the generation before did. life for women in the Elizabethan era: Back in the Elizabethan Period women were regarded as possessions or property. This means that there were no schools or universities for girls or woman during the Elizabethan period and girls and women were not allowed to act in the theatres or do much else. The Elizabethan woman were dependent on their male relatives to support them and help them in life. Marriages and Weddings in Elizabethan Times: It was legal for boys to marry at the age of 14 and girls to marry at the age of 12. Weddings and marriages were arranged by the husband. The bride did not wear a wedding dress they just wore their best cloths to the wedding. Woman were supposed to bring an amount of money and goods to the wedding. After marriage/wedding Elizabethan women were meant to have children with their husband and then go and run the family. Customs and Festivals in the Elizabethan times: Feasts and festivals were based on the church and gave Elizabethan people something to look forward to each year. Majority of people went to church every Sunday. Many of the lower class people could not read or write so the church informed them of the festivals that were going to take place in the near future. The Elizabethan Illnesses: In The Elizabethan Period there were plenty of illnesses and diseases. Some of these diseases include Bubonic Plague (Black death), dysentery and typhoid. The medicine was extremely basic and most of the doctors back in the time didn’t know what caused the terrible illnesses and diseases. So they couldn’t help as much. The doctors made sure they wouldn’t get illnesses and diseases by having their cloths cover them from head to toes and he/her even wore a mask to make sure! |
